Linnalapsi

Myself (center) and a few friends posing as the fake band in early 2009. I miss the days when you could convince friends to do dumb things.

Linnalapsi is my first folk metal music project and my first music project overall, started by me in early 2009. Originally created to release a few songs spoofing folk metal music, Linnalapsi eventually grew to become my first primary music project and resulted in two full-length albums of folk metal music (Laulu Linnalapsien and Mennesiyyden Laulut) and four music videos.

Because of lack of funds, lack of guitar pedal, and just general knowledge about music production, all Linnalapsi songs were created using completely computer-generated sounds. The first album, Laulu Linnalapsien, simply uses sounds from the computer’s MIDI reader. The second album, Menneisyyden Laulut, uses MIDI sounds for the everything but the guitar. The distorted guitar is was produced by Guitar Pro 5’s “Realistic Sound Engine”.

Both albums were released to very little fanfare and impact, although the second album was posted on many online forums and comments continue to linger to this day.

A third album was planned and songs were written. Some of the songs that were diverged so much from the Linnalapsi sound, however, these songs were released as the Waldkrach EP under the music project Waldkrach.

Due to the low interest in Linnalapsi and MIDI-created metal (even as a joke), it is unknown if Linnalapsi will have a third album. Due to my busy schedule, it seems unlikely. Still, there are times I think it’d be fun to do just for fun, crappy recording and all.
